Just a dozen or so years ago, the performance of a native actor outside our country was rather rare. Today Poles are increasingly bold in conquering Hollywood and appearing in European productions. Thanks to their talent, hard work and the slightly changing perception of Hollywood towards European cinema, they are gaining international recognition. Their successes also prove that Polish cinematography is becoming more and more visible in the world. Below you can read about those who achieve the greatest successes abroad.
Tomasz Kot
He is one of the most recognizable Polish actors. He became known on the international arena thanks to his role in the film “Cold War” by Paweł Pawlikowski. Kot, playing the main male role, stood out from other actors, which opened the door to his international career. His talent did not go unnoticed in foreign cinemawhere the actor received a role in films such as “Perfect Enemy”, “Joika” and a foreign production about the life of Maria Skłodowska-Curie.

Marcin Dorociński
Known for productions such as “Pitbull” and “Rose”, Dorociński gained international recognition thanks to his role in the Netflix series “The Queen’s Gambit”, where he played the role of the Russian chess player, Vasily Borgov. The series, which turned out to be a global hit, made Dorociński’s talent appreciated by a wider, international audience. We could also see him in “Vikings: Valhalla” or alongside Tom Cruise himself in the blockbuster “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One”. Dorociński is also to appear in the next part of the series.
Joanna Kulig
Another example is the career of Joanna Kulig who, like Kot, international recognition is largely due to the “Cold War”, although she had previously made smaller appearances in foreign productions, such as “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters”, the German “The Lost Time” or the Korean “Way Back Home”. In recent years, her most famous roles include the Netflix series “The Eddy”, where she played one of the main roles.

Alicja Bachleda-Curuś
In our country, she became famous in 1999 for the role of Zosia in “Pan Tadeusz”. Since then, she has had an impressive career outside Poland. Her talent did not escape the attention of foreign producers and directors. In 2009, she starred alongside Colin Farrell in the film “Ondine”. She also played some of the main roles in films such as “Girl’s in Trouble”, “Polaris” and “The Trade” – a drama about human trafficking.

Piotr Adamczyk
The actor made his presence known 20 years ago in biographical films about John Paul II. Then Adamczyk focused mainly on Polish productions, but in the last few years almost every second appearance has been a foreign film or series. We could already see it on most streaming services – “Night Sky” on Prime Video, “Hawkeye” from Disney + and “For all mankind” produced by Apple.
