Who among us hasn’t experienced this disappointment? We take it out of the washing machine, and instead of smelling fresh, it smells musty. The cause of the above situation is most often mold, which has excellent conditions for development inside a humid space. How to deal with the unpleasant musty smell and enjoy fresh laundry?
How to effectively improve the smell in a washing machine? You won’t believe how simple it is
You will probably find many ways to solve this problem, but not all of them will be effective. We suggest the “3xO” rule, thanks to which you can say goodbye to unpleasant odors for good.
After each wash you should:
- Turn the washing machine drum over because something may have been accidentally stuck in it;
- Open the washing machine door;
- Open the detergent and washing liquid drawer.
Thanks to this method, moisture will not accumulate in the washing machine, which favors the formation of mold, and our laundry will not smell musty.

How to clean a washing machine at home? Cheap and effective
Of course, simply “airing” the washing machine, i.e. avoiding excessive moisture accumulation, will not replace thorough cleaning. The washing machine should be thoroughly refreshed at least once a month to avoid an unpleasant odor.
The easiest way is to pour half of the package baking soda into the powder container
and setting the basic program to 90°C. Of course, there must be no clothes inside the device during this operation. If you don’t have baking soda, it will come in handy vinegar, the smell of which can be neutralized with any oil, e.g. lavender. Just pour a glass of vinegar into the washing liquid container and then set it to 90°C again. Both vinegar and baking soda, in addition to thoroughly cleaning the device, also have descaling properties.
