She made her debut as a 15-year-old in the rock band Astra in November 1969. She quickly abandoned her studies to join the musical group Alibabki. She performed in Poland and other countries of the Eastern Bloc, and then participated in the first years of Perfect’s activity. However, she achieved international popularity in the mid-1980s with the band Matt Bianco.

Many Polish musicians who achieved great popularity in our country tried their hand at abroad. A famous example is , who went to conquer the USA in the 1980s. Although he performed there in various clubs, he did not gain the popularity he had hoped for. Due to this, he had to undertake various physical jobs. At the same time, Basia Trzetrzelewska took her first steps on foreign stages and quickly achieved success that many Polish artists could only dream of.

Unplanned great fame

Basia Trzetrzelewska, born on September 30, 1954 in Jaworzno, is a unique figure on the Polish and world music scene. In Poland, she played in several bands, experimenting with different styles and looking for her place in music. Her talent and passion have been appreciated many times. Initially, she did not plan to pursue an international career. However, moving to Great Britain following my then love changed a lot.

“I went to a studio where they were looking for a vocalist. And then I met Danny White, a musician with whom I still work today […] I was terrified because I didn’t even know English well. But I dared,” she said in an interview for the website. In addition to their passion for music, Basia and Danny were united by feelings. Their love did not stand the test of time, but their friendship remained. Together with another member of Matt Blanco, Mark Reilly, they released their first album “Whose Side Are You He?” conquered Europe. The band’s success allowed Basia to start her solo career.

Basia incorporated elements of Polish culture into her songs, which further enriched her music and emphasized the artist’s roots. Basia’s debut solo album, “Time and Tide”, made her gain many fans, among others, in the USA and Japan, where she gave many concerts over the years. The next album titled “London Warsaw New York” sold over 2 million copies around the world.

Even though she was very successful, she did not avoid difficult times

However, Basia’s life was not without difficulties. The death of her beloved mother was a great pain for her. Later in the artist’s life, there was a series of losses of other close people, including the death of her cousin and friends. All these tragic events plunged the artist into depression, which caused her to abandon her career. Only after a few years, Danny and Mark, i.e. her bandmates Matt Bianco, managed to convince her to resume her career and reactivate the band with the original line-up.

What’s going on with Basia today?

This year Basia will celebrate her 70th birthday, but she has not announced it yet, although there are no concerts planned yet. The last performances in Poland took place last year, attracting many fans. He has two citizenships – Polish and British. She lives with her partner Kevin on the outskirts of London, but she often returns to her hometown of Jaworzno. She spent a lot of her savings on renovating her house in Poland.
