Daniel Radcliffe cried in the last scene of the first “Harry Potter”. But not out of emotion

The first part of the Harry Potter adventure film premiered in 2001, i.e. four years after the release of JK Rowling’s novel. The book quickly gained popularity around the world, and fans couldn’t wait to see the film adaptation on the big screen.

For many, this detail was very important. In the movie they did it differently, but not out of whim.

Those with a trained eye immediately noticed that one detail was incorrect. It’s about the color of Harry Potter’s eyes, which in the novel is green. Moreover, this is the only thing he has in common with his dead mother. That’s why many were shocked when, at the end of the film, in a scene Hagrid hands Potter a homemade album filled with photos of Harry’s parents.

In the film, both he and his mother have blue eyes, which caused outrage among some fans of the series. Years later, it turned out that this change was not the filmmakers’ idea, but resulted from a sudden accident that occurred on the set during the first day of shooting. The green contact lenses prepared for Radcliffe caused a sudden allergic reaction that made his eyes water.

Then it was decided to completely give up contact lenses. In the final version of the scene where the young wizard boards the express, Potter’s eyes look slightly bloodshot, which many say adds appropriate drama. However, few people realize that this is not due to the young actor’s “emotion”, but an allergic reaction he has just had.

Moreover, the creators of “The Sorcerer’s Stone” did not want to ask the teenage Radcliffe to suffer during the scene or to digitally change his eye color during post-production, which, according to one producer, would be “artificial”. It was decided to hire another actress to play Potter’s mother, who also has blue eyes. The final engagement was given to Geraldine Somerville.
