The attitude of the Catholic Church towards tattoos
In recent years, tattoos have become extremely popular. However, it is no secret that the Catholic Church has a very negative attitude towards them. Some priests even compare it to… a pact with the devil. However, opinions on this subject are also divided within the Church itself. In 2018, Pope Francis himself said:
Don’t be afraid of tattoos. Eritreans have been making the sign of the cross on their foreheads for many years. We see them today too. Exaggeration may be the problem, but not the tattoos themselves.
Recently, the media has become loud again about one of Father Jarosiewicz’s films. All thanks to Michał Marszał, who shared it on his Instagram profile. The recording talks about “tying tattoos”. The recording aroused great interest. Many people became interested in what this procedure actually is.
“Getting a tattoo is a prayer”
At the beginning of the film, we see a woman who reveals that a priest put a tattoo on her during a retreat. He adds, pointing to the little child, that thanks to this he has “this gift from God.” From her words it follows that prayer helped in trying to have a child. – Tying the tattoo is a prayer thanks to which the person you saw in the video will have a child – explains Father Jarosiewicz.
Of course, tattoos do not cause fertility problems. Therefore, the topic discussed in the priest’s film aroused considerable controversy and sparked a heated discussion. The participants included people who, despite their best efforts, do not have children. “I don’t have a single tattoo. We’ve been trying for 7 years and nothing, so I guess it’s a matter of faith”, “I have tattoos and I’m pregnant”, “But these are some heresies” – we can read in the comments section under the video on TikTok.
