Journalists from the most popular television stations in Poland gathered at the Civic Coalition’s election evening. TV Republika also wanted to cover the event, but its representatives did not receive permission to enter the group’s headquarters. The case received wide coverage in the media.

On April 7, 2024, Poles went to the polls again to vote for their candidates in the local government elections. The voting was covered live by the most important television stations in the country, including . However, this one, compared to the competition, had a slightly more difficult task.

Łukasz Żmuda, a journalist from a right-wing station, appeared in front of the headquarters of the Civic Coalition’s election headquarters to show live how the voting takes place. However, he could not enter the building because, despite his earlier request, he was not allowed to participate in the election evening, which he did not hesitate to comment on on air. – Unfortunately, our camera cannot go inside. We previously submitted a request to the staff via e-mail. Such requests were sent, but what we heard from people authorized to admit the media was that our request was not considered by the KO staff – with bitterness to the viewers.

During the election evening, this situation was raised several times on the show, including by , who presided over the coverage of the events. – What a surprise, I’m shocked, the e-mail must have got lost – the presenter ironized. – It certainly has nothing to do with this group’s treatment of free media in Poland – he said, thus criticizing Donald Tusk’s government.

In this year’s local elections, Poles voted for almost 47,000 people. councilors of municipalities, counties and provincial assemblies, as well as nearly 2.5 thousand commune heads, mayors and city presidents. According to the exit poll published by Ipsos just after the polls closed, i.e. after 9 p.m., in the elections to the provincial assemblies the greatest support, amounting to 33.7% of the votes, was received. Second place was taken by the Civic Coalition with 31.9% of the votes, followed by Trzecia Droga with 13.9% of the support. In turn, the Confederation received the least, 7.5%. The turnout is also surprising. According to Ipsos for the stations, TVN and Polsat, it was as much as 51.5%.
