Construction of the building where the New York Café is located began in 1890 and was completed four years later. The building resembles old American buildings, has four floors, and from the very beginning the ground floor was intended as a café.
In the past, artists gathered at the New York Café, a the café was the main place in Budapest for social and cultural events. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in the process and closed in 1947. It was reactivated by the communist authorities in 1954 and a café was set up inside, but it did not resemble its original. It was only in 2001 that the building was bought by an Italian company that undertook renovation, and the opening took place five years later.
