No more rumors and suspicions. Denis Villeneuve says what about the third part of “Dune”

The first “Dune” – a success. The second “Dune” – an even greater success. It couldn’t have been otherwise, but Denis Villeneuve finally confirmed that the third part of “Dune” would be made. We also know what film the director will make next.

He swore he needed to rest. That he spent his last years in the dirt. However, there are important and more important things, especially money, popularity and producers’ pleas not to kill the good streak. finally officially confirms that he is working on the third film from the “Dune” universe.

“Messiah of Dune”. Denis Villeneuve will definitely make the film

Filming Frank Herbert’s “Dune” has been the director’s dream since his teenage years. Over the years, the dream was slowly verified, but it finally happened. The first film part was an overwhelming success, and Villeneuve began to say more boldly that he would like to make three films and tell the entire story of Paul Atreides. However, after the release of the second film in early 2024, he was no longer so eager to confirm anything.

I still have other stories to tell. When Dune 2 hits theaters, I’ll wonder if I can go back to Arrakis right away or if I need some distraction to keep my mind sane

– he swore in an interview with The Playlist. As you can see, the time for reflection is over, because Legendary, the studio that produced both parts of “Dune” with Villeneuve, revealed that the third part will definitely be made, and immediately after it (and the film about Cleopatra), the director will shoot the film adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s book “Nuclear War: A Scenario. Before the third “Dune”, Villeneuve is planning one, at most two other projects – one is to be “Encounter with Rama”, based on the novel by Arthur C. Clarke.

Denis Villeneuve will pick up the story where Nolan left off

Work on “Nuclear War: A Scenario” is not very advanced yet. Legendary told the website that Villeneuve would co-produce and, possibly, direct the film adaptation of the bestseller with his long-time partner Tanya Lapointe. They have produced both parts of “Dune”, and Lapointe also helped with the post-production of “Blade Runner 2049” and “A New Beginning”.

“Nuclear War: A Scenario” deals with the consequences of what could be seen in Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”. What does a world that is heading straight for the abyss look like? What happens when politicians make the final decisions? In the book, Annie Jacobsen assumes that the attack would come from North Korea, although today it is known that the political theater has moved towards Russia and Iran. The author shows step by step what will happen when Korea attacks. Its predictions are based on individual countries’ actual doctrines, their response policies and details that are publicly available but not necessarily widely known. Like the fact that the American counterattack towards Korea would have to take into account the Russian variable – because the US missiles would have to fly over Russian territory. Everything would have to be decided by individual people on Earth in a few minutes – because that’s how long the US president would have to analyze the action plan. The conclusion drawn from “Nuclear War: A Scenario” is, of course, not optimistic. When “this” starts, only the scenarios from “Mad Max”, “Fallout” and “Metro 2033” will remain.

Annie Jacobsen’s book went on sale on March 26, 2024. Unfortunately, in Poland it is available only in English and in very few bookstores.
