Then we talk about actresses and actors who, before they made huge careers, were so devastated by the large number of failures in their profession that they thought about changing their profession. Finally, the cherry on the cake – a few words from Jonathan Pryce. You can find the episode here:
Who else was almost done with acting before their big break?
Bradley Cooper is such an example. Fresh out of college, he got a small role in the second season of “Sex and the City” – he played Carrie Bradshaw’s boyfriend. Shortly afterwards, he got a bigger role in the comedy “Wet Hot American Summer”, which was torn apart by critics, but it still became a cult production. Thanks to her, JJ Abrams cast him in the series “Alias”, where he appeared alongside Jennifer Garner.
This production raised Cooper’s position in the industry, but the actor was worried that Abrams was increasingly limiting his character’s screen time and relegating him to the background. This led to the development of depression in the actor, who after 16 years of sobriety again had drinking problems. He resigned from the series – contrary to what everyone advised him. And then, on top of that, he ruptured his Achilles tendon while playing basketball and was unable to work for a year. It was then that he considered quitting acting for good.
When he landed roles in films such as “Bridesmaids Hunt” and “Women Want More,” he decided to get sober again. In 2009, he appeared in the comedy “The Hangover”, which gave his career a huge boost. Now the actor and his films have received many Oscar nominations, and he is appreciated not only as an actor, but also as a director and film producer.
