JK Rowling opposes the new law in Scotland. She is ready to submit to punishment

At the beginning of April, Scotland introduced a hate crime law providing for, among other things, legal liability for the inappropriate use of pronouns against transgender people. Even before it came into force, the writer emphasized that she intended to openly express her views, even under the threat of punishment or imprisonment. Now the Scottish services say that the author of the Harry Potter book series will not be punished for her comments posted online.

From Monday, April 1, a hate crime directive comes into force in Scotland, including penalties for people who use inappropriate pronouns for transgender people. JK Rowling, the author of the popular series of books about Harry Potter, opposed the new regulations. The writer was accused of transphobia several years ago, but she has always firmly stuck to her position that she only cares about defending women’s rights and freedom of expression.

JK Rowling will not be punished

Some time ago, Rowling openly opposed the use of the phrase “menstruating women” and the use of women’s dressing rooms by transwomen. At the end of last year, when a discussion about the draft law on hate crimes broke out in the media, the author stated that she did not intend to hide her views and would gladly go to prison for them.

“I will happily serve two years if the alternative is to be forced to say yes if someone tells me to.” This is a forced denial of reality and how important gender is. Start your court case now. “I think I would have more fun in prison than on the red carpet,” she wrote on the X website.

The law announced by the government came into force at the beginning of April this year and, just like last time, JK Rowling did not remain silent about the matter. “The Scottish Hate Crime Act comes into force today. Women, of course, do not gain any additional protection, but the well-known transgender activist Beth Douglas, a favorite of prominent Scottish politicians, belongs to the protected category,” she wrote on the X website. Scottish services have received complaints about the author, but they do not intend to initiate proceedings against her.
