Carnage on Republika TV. It was about the morning-after pill. “A 14-year-old cannot get pregnant and give birth”

The controversy surrounding the restoration of the availability of the morning-after pill without a prescription continues. Now this topic was discussed by Mi³osz K³eczek in his program for TV Republika, in which he hosted Anna Kwiecieñ from PiS and Ma³gorzata Prokop-Paczkowska from the New Left. As soon as he asked the first question, the atmosphere reached its zenith and the audience witnessed a fierce discussion.

The “morning after” pill has been the subject of dispute between various circles and political camps for years. As is widely known, since 2017, emergency contraception has been available only on prescription, but this was changed by the amendment to the Pharmaceutical Law, passed on February 22, 2024, which allows anyone over 15 years of age to purchase it without prior consultation with a doctor. The change caused huge controversy and strong opposition from the right, led by the president, who vetoed it, citing “constitutional rights and standards of children’s health protection.”

The controversial issue was also raised in the program “Miłosz Kłeczek invites”, which was broadcast on April 2, 2024. The host hosted Anna Kwiecień from the studio and Małgorzata Prokop-Paczkowska from Nowa Lewica, to whom he addressed first. – Do you really care about women’s rights, is it the quintessence of caring for women’s rights, for their well-being, for their health, perhaps for their lives, when you offer the “morning after” pill without a prescription to young girls aged 15 and over? – , clearly emphasizing their views on this issue. – Fortunately, President Andrzej Duda vetoes this bill. Is this really a concern for women’s rights? – he asked agitatedly.

However, she had no opportunity to answer because the journalist immediately started his argument. He stated directly that it was ridiculous that young girls did not receive proper care in this matter by doctors and parents, who should have knowledge about possible side effects and possible complications. – So that young girls, without consulting a doctor, without their parents’ knowledge, without having a pedagogical or educational conversation with their legal guardian, reach for “morning after” pills like hard candies, like rutinoscorbin – thundered Kłeczek. Then Prokop-Paczkowska couldn’t stand it.

Prokop-Paczkowska sharply in the program “Miłosz Kłeczek invites”. The presenter reacted firmly

The New Left activist tried to speak several times, but to no avail because the presenter kept shouting over her. Eventually she managed to speak. – What you are saying is an absolute fraud – she stated directly, explaining that the so-called The morning-after pill has been tested both clinically and pharmacologically, and its use is completely safe for women’s health and life. Thus, she noted that there is no equal outrage over the fact that 14-year-old girls are giving birth to children in Poland, even though they are not ready for it. – Can Polish women have children at the age of 14? – asked the shocked host of the program. – Madam MP, they can’t! Legally, a 14-year-old cannot get pregnant and give birth to a child, he replied after a while.

At this point, Anna Kwiecień from PiS also joined the discussion, but the conversation did not become more substantive. The three of them shouted over each other, trying to emphasize their points. – Many young girls lead a dangerous lifestyle in this regard, as they were able to take this product several times during the menstrual cycle – said Kwiecień, which only further enraged Prokop-Paczkowska, who had clearly different views than her interlocutors. The atmosphere reached its zenith and finally Kłeczek decided to take control of the situation. – Okay, me now! I won’t shout over the top, but it’s me now! – he said, trying to calm down the guests a bit and take control of the development of the conversation.
