As is widely known, since 2017, emergency contraception has been available only on prescription, but this was changed by the amendment to the Pharmaceutical Law, passed on February 22, 2024, which allows anyone over 15 years of age to purchase it without prior consultation with a doctor. The change caused huge controversy and strong opposition from the right, led by the president, who vetoed it, citing “constitutional rights and standards of children’s health protection.”
