What cannot be taken from the forest? Don’t mess around, or you’ll meet the forester in court. The penalty will hurt the wallet

It’s officially spring. The weather outside is getting nicer, so Poles went to the forests in droves. Although nature is beautiful and we would like to take some of it home, some things cannot be taken from the forest under any circumstances.

The spring and summer season is the perfect time for walks in the forest. They have a positive impact on health because the air there is exceptionally clean and free of pollutants. Just a short walk among the trees is enough to relax, de-stress and calm down. In the forest you can come across many different species and things left by animals. Some cannot be touched.

What can’t you take out of the forest? The list is quite long

While staying in the forest, you cannot pick plants, which are strictly protected. These include, among others: dwarf birch, lace lily, sea holly, common shoewort, orchid, pasque flower, moss, common marsh, marsh gladiolus and lily of the valley in flower. You can pick a small amount of flowers that are not protected, but if a forest service representative finds that you have destroyed property in this way, you will have to pay a fine. The case may also be taken to court.

You must not pick plants in national parks, nature reserves and forests where entry is permanently or temporarily prohibited. In addition, you cannot take animals out, frighten them, kill them or feed them. It is also forbidden to take eggs from nests and destroy anthills and burrows. Taking branches and wood and stripping bark from trees is not allowed.

What can you take away from the forest? One condition must be met

Antlers can only be taken under one condition: they must be found on the ground and cannot be taken from a national park or nature reserve. You can get a fine of PLN 500 for illegally taking antlers. If the case goes to court, the fine may increase to PLN 5,000. In accordance with the Forest Act you can take fleece from the forest, i.e. mushrooms and berries, but their collection is only allowed for your own needs. If you want to collect them in order to sell them later, you need separate consent. In national forests, you can collect a few cones, but you cannot destroy the plant they come from. Therefore, breaking branches and damaging roots is not allowed.
