Agnieszka Holland was once again honored abroad. The director received huge financial support from the Council of Europe, which, thanks to the Eurimages fund, will help the creator in the implementation of her next work. What will the artist’s new film be about?

Eurimages is a fund supporting European cinema, administered by the Council of Europe, which has existed since 1989 and covers 28 of the 46 member states and Canada. The initiative helps in the production of full-length feature and animated films as well as documentaries longer than 70 minutes. All projects submitted to Eurimages must have at least two co-producers from different Member States.

Thanks to the support of the initiative in the amount of over PLN 1.7 million, she was able to make one of the most famous Polish films of recent years – “The Green Border”. We already know that Eurimages will also invest in the director’s next project. According to the website, this time 26 films will receive support – including five documentaries and one animation. As many as fourteen of them will be directed by women.

The fund allocated as much as seven million euros to support European cinema. One of the people who can count on money from Eurimages is Agnieszka Holland. The director received support in the form of EUR 500,000, i.e. over PLN 2 million, to make a biographical film about Franz Kafka. This is the highest amount of support among those mentioned. Shooting for the film will begin in the Czech Republic and Germany in April. Idan Weiss will play the role of the writer.

There will be a new film from the creator of “The Worst Man in the World”

In addition to Agnieszka Holland, Swedish director Amanda Kernell, who will make the film “The Curse, A Love Story” about a love triangle among reindeer herders, received help in making the films. In turn, Joachim Trier will film a family drama “Sentimental Value” about sisters who must reconnect with their father after the death of their mother. The director will once again work with Renate Reinsve, whom the creator met on the set of “The Worst Man in the World”, nominated for an Oscar.

In turn, Swedish-Egyptian director Tarik Saleh, the creator of the 2017 thriller “Murder at the Hilton” and “The Boy from Heaven”, received help to make the film “Eagles Of The Republic” about an actor who is forced to take on the role of Egyptian president Al-Sissi in a rather unfavorable biographical film.
