Edyta Geppert is considered one of the biggest stars of the Polish stage. She made her debut on the professional stage in the first half of the 1980s and then she performed for the first time at , winning the main prize for the song “Jaka Róża, tak cierń”. She later stood on this stage several times, receiving, among others, four times Grand Prix. Today, however, it is not possible for her to delight the audience that gathers there again. Why?
She was a student, he was a professor. This is how Edyta Geppert met her husband and manager
The singer has never hidden that she owes her career development to her husband, Piotr Loretz, who also serves as her manager. They met in the late 1970s, when she took entrance exams to the Warsaw Music School. She was one of the candidates at the time and he was on the jury, so she treated him like a mentor. It was only when she finished her education four years later that something sparked between them. – He has always been and is my guardian angel, I feel safe with him. And no one directs me as well as he does – in “Viva”. It was at his instigation that she created an intimate theater performance entitled “Confidential Games”, the script of which was based on the columns and unpopular works of their dear friend and outstanding poet, Agnieszka Osiecka. – My artistic life has received a new, fresh impulse – she revealed in an interview with , adding that she regrets that her new projects are not available to the general public.
The birth of her son was a breakthrough in Geppert’s career. After a few years, she returned to the stage
Geppert directly admits that the accusations of being a “one-hit wonder” are extremely unfair to her, especially since she has been constantly expanding her repertoire for years. – I am not on the radio or television, I have no influential supporters and I do not benefit from the support of sponsors. This is the price I pay for independence, she said in the same interview. It turns out that she had signed a contract with a record label at the beginning, which, as it later turned out, was not a ticket to fame, but a shot in the foot, because she was somehow “incapacitated”.
She was dictated not only what she should look like, but also what and how to sing. Only when her son Mieczysław was born in 1988 did she consider it an excellent opportunity to free herself from the unfavorable terms of the contract. –Motherhood absorbed me and made me happy. I made the decision not to return to the stage. Singing lullabies for Miecio was enough for me – she recalled a few years ago in the “20m2 Łukasz” program on YouTube. Over time, however, she realized that she wanted to return to her passion, which was helped by her husband, with whom she created a recital. – It was the most important decision in my artistic life – she declared recently.
Geppert will not celebrate the anniversary in Opole. She spoke directly about the reasons
In 2024, Geppert will celebrate her 40th anniversary of artistic activity, and although she openly says that she would like to celebrate it at , which was a springboard for her career, the organizer does not want to cooperate with her. – Piotr once made such proposals, but Polish Television was not interested – she said briefly, at the same time admitting that since her debut, the music market has undergone a spectacular metamorphosis and today it is difficult for her to find her way in it, because she has the impression that music no longer plays in the him the main role. – I go on stage not to show off my voice or performance, but to tell a story that is close to me – said the star.
