People went shopping instead of going to church with palm trees. “The crowds seem to be giving away something for free”

– My husband and I were laughing that people went shopping instead of going to the Church with palm trees! The crowds at one of the shopping malls looked really strange. Honestly, I never see that many people there. […] I can’t understand this at all! I think that the salespeople who worked yesterday were furious – writes our reader Patrycja in a letter to the editor.

Yesterday, shopping Sunday motivated many people to make large purchases. There were crowds in shopping malls all over the country. As our reader Patrycja writes in her letter, she doesn’t usually see such crowds and traffic jams around the gallery. Yesterday, however, it was different. People went shopping en masse. With her consent, we are publishing the letter in its entirety.

Many people still work on Sunday and this will probably never change

I have never been a fan of the Sunday trading ban. I believe that following this trend, employees of public transport, restaurants, cinemas, theaters and gas stations should also have the day off. Because it’s not like we’re all off that day. For example, my brother works in radio. And he often has Sunday shifts. So it’s not like store employees now have time off like everyone else. Many people still work on Sunday and this will probably never change. And because of these changes, crowds in stores on Saturdays are really terrible.

I realized yesterday how difficult this decision can be. My husband and I were laughing that people went shopping instead of going to the Church with palm trees! The crowds at one of the shopping malls looked really strange. Honestly, I never see that many people there. However, Palm Sunday motivated people to make large purchases. The crowds flocked to the gallery as if it was giving away something for free or it was open once a month. I can’t understand this at all! I think the salespeople who worked yesterday were furious. I imagine this day must have been exhausting for them.

“New habits” probably haven’t become a part of us yet

After dinner, my husband and I went for a walk yesterday. Walking down the street that runs next to our block and leads to the shopping mall, we were wondering why there was such a traffic jam… After a while, I realized that today was a shopping Sunday. Hence the traffic jams and crowds in front of the shopping center. People must have gone crazy! Instead of enjoying a quiet Sunday, they went to crowded galleries. I must admit that I was surprised by this sight. I guess that wasn’t the intention behind the ban on Sunday trading? We were supposed to spend time with family or in churches. However, the picture from yesterday showed me that the “new habits” have not yet become part of our blood…
