My grandmother is a happy senior citizen whose health has deteriorated after many years of hard work and she spends most of her time at home. Like most people this age, he doesn’t watch anything on Netflix or other such services, but he has cable TV, which he has been using for years. She loves watching crime shows, so she always had a lot of movie and series channels.

Normally, I live far from the town I come from, but sometimes, instead of staying at my family home, I come for the weekend to my grandmother, who lives alone after my grandfather’s death. Some time ago, I arrived at her apartment late in the evening and immediately went to a room specially prepared for my arrival. Tired from the journey, I turned on the TV to catch my eye on something and get ready for bed. However, when I reached the end of the channel list, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It turned out that the grandmother had access to paid erotic channels that broadcast uncensored films 24 hours a day.
This concerned me because I wouldn’t have suspected my grandmother of seeing such things. I thought it was some kind of promotion and wanted to leave the topic, but the next day I decided to ask her about it over breakfast. At first, my grandmother did not want to believe it at all and swore that she had not ordered such a package. However, when I turned on one of the channels at the end of the list, she almost had a heart attack.
The senior became very angry and immediately called the cable company’s hotline, claiming that she knew nothing about it. It turned out that when extending the contract over the phone, the consultant suggested extending the offer with additional packages that would include film stations. However, he did not mention to her that these would not be standard feature films. My grandmother also did not realize the price of this package that was forced on her at that time. For seven months, she paid an additional PLN 30 for access to these stations.

The whole situation ended in a big row with the consultant, who said that the grandmother had agreed to purchase this package herself and had signed an annex to the contract for a period of 12 months. After a few minutes of shouting, the cable company employee admitted that the service could be canceled during its duration, but it would involve additional costs that were much greater than paying for the package during the remaining months.
I decided to write to your editorial office to warn everyone, especially older people who decide to extend their contracts by phone, to ask carefully about what is being offered to them. I bet there are many more people who have been deceived in the same way as my grandmother. Telemarketers may earn a larger commission on the sale of additional services, and I guess there aren’t many people willing to buy erotic packages on standard TV these days. Don’t get ripped off by something you don’t want to pay for!
