“The biggest surprise in the cinema this year?” You won’t guess – it’s a document

Just a few weeks ago, few people knew that such a film had even been made. It turns out that it may be the dark horse of spring. Some people estimate that in the first weekend alone, the film “Buddha. Kid ’98” may be seen by as many as 320,000 people on the big screen. people.

Many readers may be hearing about Buddha for the first time, and he is one of the most popular Polish influencers. Of course, there are also those who have been following his activities from the beginning – he started with automotive-related recordings, breaking the record for the largest live viewership on YouTube. Others got to know him when his charity auctions became famous. A documentary about him can be seen in cinemas from March 21.

Buddha drives fast cars and gives away money

You can’t count on artistic delights, but Budda has fans who will probably want to see the film in the cinema. The YouTuber’s real name is Kamil Labudda, and his YouTube account currently has over 2.2 million subscribers. In January this year, he broke the Polish YouTube record in the number of viewers during one broadcast – the final of his lottery was watched by over 650,000 Internet users. He was the subject of much publicity at the beginning of the year during the finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. Buddha disguised as an old man supported the cause of the campaign by throwing PLN 100,000 into cans. Of course, he filmed everything and showed it online.

“In Krakow, someone put PLN 100,000 into a can, hmm… We wondered a bit in the staff who it could be and whether it was some YouTuber. And now we know, Buddha, thanks! Best regards and thanks for playing with us,” commented WOŚP activists.

As announced by the creators, the documentary will show stories that have not been shown on social media before. “Viewers will be able to see previously unpublished shots from trips, including to Chernobyl and the United States. The influencer talks about the pros and cons of being active online, and also reveals what mistakes not to make and what to avoid.”

Buddha – as the distributor emphasizes – gave away money and branded cars to his fans, donated a box of money to the Orphanage and helps animals. He announces the production as “a ride full of emotions and luxurious automotive gems through life’s difficulties and achievements of one of the most popular Polish influencers.” Behind the camera was Krystian Kuczkowski – co-creator of the hit “Ania” about the life of the famous actress Ania Przybylska, which was seen in cinemas by over 600,000 viewers.

Who is Kamil Labudda? Will it attract crowds to cinemas?

Kamil Labudda comes from Krakow. He had a difficult childhood. His father was an alcoholic, and on his 18th birthday his mother kicked him out of the house. He was left homeless, but – as he told his fans – his love saved him. And today he is a millionaire. His YouTube channel, founded in 2019, is highly profitable. In 2022, he was supposed to earn over PLN 661,000 from advertising alone. zlotys. However, he says that money is not the most important thing to him. – The whole world is chasing money, that’s the game, that’s life, but the people who gain a lot are those who quickly understand that money is a means of exchange that allows you to do cool things – he said in one of the few interviews given to Weronika Sowa. In the past – which he admits – he sometimes spent more than he had. Now he can afford practically anything, but at the same time he gives a lot to others.

And crowds may flock to cinemas. “The first estimates say 100,000 viewers on this one day alone!” – we read. Box Office Lab estimates that in the so-called the opening weekend, the film may be seen by as much as 280-320 thousand. Even in the case of an additional day (“Buddha. Kid ’98” was released in cinemas on Thursday, and not on Friday, like most films), such a result would be impressive. Let’s remember that we are talking about a documentary film that does not have a huge promotional campaign. Just a few weeks ago, even industry journalists had barely heard about this premiere. For comparison, in mid-March, the sequel to the film “Too Big for Fairy Tales” (the first one was a hit) sold 152,000 on its opening weekend. tickets. And it was a better result than in the case of the first part.

The creator of the Box Office Lab profile notes that although documentary films regularly appear on cinema screens, they do not usually attract audiences numbering in the hundreds of thousands. “Of course, there is not a similar number of copies or screenings as leading feature films, which is why their attendance very rarely exceeds 50-60 thousand viewers. In recent years, the above-mentioned “Ania” managed to do this, and previously “Whitney” (2018, 150 thousand). ” – I’m writing.

A scratch in the image? Buddha replies

“See what the ‘mindset’ of internet creators looks like, what laws govern this industry and what opportunities it offers,” the creators encourage people to watch the document. At a time when Polish YouTubers do not have very good press, Labudda maintains a good image. Recently, a crack appeared on his face when his nickname appeared in a negative context in the Mad Reporter’s material about alleged crimes that allegedly took place in the largest sports car rental company in Poland. Buddha did not wait for the accused in the material to respond to the allegations, among others. about fraud, the company owner reacted.

“We presented our last cooperation with MGP over a year ago on the subject of the Audi RS4. It went perfectly and no one was defrauded. MGP is apparently planning to release its material in which it explains all the accusations. I am waiting for it myself, because from the film it looks like it is nothing to explain – he claims that the truth is on his side – he wrote on InstaStories (quote from SuperExpress). “No viewer has ever been deceived by me. On the contrary – I have often given my own money for other people’s affairs,” he assured.
