There is a joke in “The Three-Body Problem” that only Poles will appreciate. You need to know “Sexmission”
An important element of the plot is a mysterious online game whose goal is to save the inhabitants of a certain planet. It is played by, among others, one of the heroines named Jin Cheng (Jess Hong). He enters the game by accident and doesn’t really know what to do at the beginning. Nevertheless, he is told by a character in the game that he must give his name. When he introduces himself to the real ones, he’s told it’s not appropriate and told to come up with something better. Then he gives a significant name: Copernicus. In this way, the series “The Three-Body Problem” makes “Copernicus was also a woman.”
Let us remind you that this is exactly the issue in Juliusz Machulski’s cult comedy entitled This one tells the story of Maks () and Albert (Olgierd Łukaszewicz), two men who hibernated in the 1980s as part of an experiment and wake up in 2044. They discover that there are no men left and they are literally the last of their sex. The world is ruled by the Women’s League, and the entire society lives underground due to deadly radiation. The discovery of the two guys causes quite a chaos and it is not entirely clear what to do with them. So the council meets to vote on the issue of their naturalization, i.e. changing their gender, so that they do not stand out from other women. Albert and Maks want to defend themselves against this and point out that men have contributed to the development of the world and science for years.
“The history of progress is the history of men. You cannot deny that. All great scientists, fathers of progress, humanists, inventors were men,” Albert shouts to the women gathered in the hall. Then the question is asked: “Suppose who? Specifically, names.” To which the answer is: “Well, Copernicus, for example.” Here comes the famous retort: ”It’s a lie, Copernicus was a woman.” “What? Well, Einstein,” Albert replies, baffled, and hears that “Einstein? She was a woman too.” Then the irritated Maks asks if Skłodowska-Curie was also a woman and he realizes that he let himself get approached out of nerves.
