The game show “Go for it” made millions of Poles watch the participants’ actions on tenterhooks. It’s a breath of fresh air on Polish television. It was not only the rules of the game that were exceptionally interesting for viewers. Zygmunt Chajzer, who led it, played an iconic role, and the awards were also important. They were the incentive to participate. Because anyone could do it.
“Go for it” broke records
“Go for it” was broadcast on Polsat every Sunday, starting on September 7, 1997. Already after the first few episodes it was clear that it was a sure success. This was confirmed by the date of January 25, 1998. That day, the game show was watched by a record number of Poles, as many as 10.6 million people. This year, the population of our country was 38.6 million, so this means that almost every fourth person sat in front of the TV that evening to cheer on the participants.
“Go for it” – what were the rules of the game?
The participants were chosen from the audience, it was up to them whether and with what prizes they would leave the program. They had to decide whether to stay with the current reward or exchange it for an unknown (possibly better) one. They could resell them to other participants or buy them from them. There were also auctions and games in which they had to demonstrate their sports skills, e.g. throwing darts accurately. The participant with the highest prize was invited to the finals. He then had to choose one of three goals. Behind them there was usually a car or another prize, there were also two cars, and sometimes the participant found Zonek.
Zonk was a mascot clearly associated with “Go for it.” A plush toy in the form of a cat in a bag was a nice toy for a child, but a poor consolation when you had just lost all the prizes. This is what Zonek’s goal was related to. The host himself liked the nice cat. Just a few years ago. The cat also appeared in one of the reminiscing posts on .

“Go for it” – what could you win?
Some of the prizes that could be won on the game show may make you smile today. But almost thirty years ago, these were truly prized possessions. The most desired car, of course, was the iconic Maluch. According to , the prizes also included: a set of sweets, a supply of spices, an annual supply of sweetener and a coffee service, 20 liters of tropical fruit concentrate, sets of “large” household appliances, a 21-inch color TV with teletext function, mobile phones with accessories worth almost PLN 6,000,000, a seventeen-piece brass bathroom set, sheepskin coats, suits and trips abroad.
Will there be a sequel to “Go All the Way”?
“Go for it” could be seen until 2001. Over the last year, the presenter (Krzysztof Tyniec) and the graphic design have changed. It is said that because of this, the game show lost its popularity and it was decided to end it. There are plans to renew the format every few years, but so far to no avail. . And the host will be Zygmunt Chajzer’s son, Filip Chajzer.
