Tomatoes are the stars of the home garden. A floury, store-bought tomato will never be as good as a sun-warmed tomato straight from the vine. Unfortunately, tomatoes are also susceptible to many diseases. Even for an experienced gardener, tomato diseases can be difficult to recognize and even more difficult to treat. My mother learned that prevention is the key to a successful tomato harvest.

Don’t work on plants when they are wet. This may carry disease, let them dry
The best time to harvest tomatoes is not after a storm. Wet hands can spread diseases from plant to plant. Wait until the plants are dry before harvesting, staking, tying or pruning.
Use my mother’s remedy – homemade garlic oil. It works wonders and gets rid of pests and diseases
Garlic oil spray is a great, safe insect repellent. Just add three to four cloves of minced garlic to 10 milliliters of oil. Leave the mixture overnight and then strain the garlic from the oil. Add oil to 1 liter of water and add 1 teaspoon of biodegradable dish soap.
