Everyone loved him for his iconic quotes from Bareja’s comedy. The actor’s death was never explained

“I have a very good connection, sir”, “I’m going to the terrace and I’ll be back soon” – these are iconic quotes said by Józef Nalberczak during his 45-year career. Even though he played supporting roles, he always stood out and viewers remembered him immediately. He died in mysterious circumstances.

Józef Nalberczak’s career began unusually and remained so for 45 years. The actor was born in 1926 in Warsaw and first appeared on stage during World War II. He was a soldier of the Home Army and performed in the Theater of the Second Infantry Division. He loved the stage and wanted to become a professional actor.

He played supporting roles, but everyone knows his lyrics

“In 1946, I was demobilized as an ensign in order to study at the Drama School, and after two years I passed the external examination before the State Examination Commission and went to the rector of the State Drama School in Łódź with a request to accept me for the third year of the above-mentioned university. I received an answer positive. In 1948, I graduated from college and since then I have been working as an actor in Warsaw theaters,” we read in the application that the actor wrote when applying for a job at the Classical Theater in the capital, quoted by the Pomponik portal.

The year he graduated, Nalberczak made his debut on the big screen in the comedy “Treasure”. At the premiere, he missed himself on screen. It was, in a way, a harbinger of the fact that he would never become a big star. However, Nalberczak did great with supporting roles. His characters, although they were not seen on screen for long, were memorable.

Viewers loved him for his role in Bareja’s comedy “What will you do to me if you catch me?” His lecture on why he “has a good connection” for work is a cult fragment known to every fan of Polish cinema. Nalberczak’s fans increased over time. He starred in “Brunette in the Evening”, “Ashes”, “The Doll”, “Black Clouds” and the series “Droga” and “Czterej pancerni i pies”.

Nalberczak was extremely hard-working and determined. He stubbornly pursued the goals he set for himself. He was not arrogant, he played various roles, and he approached each one with great care and respect. “He was ready to wear torn trousers just to buy the car he wanted. He fought to play anything in anything to earn money for the car. He almost never left the theater,” says Witold Sadowy in the book “Theatre. Behind the scenes and in the scene” quoted by Głos Wielkopolski.

He abandoned his family for her, she left him for someone else

“Work was the most important thing for him. He was a fulfilled actor,” his son from his first marriage, Jacek Nalberczak, said about the actor in an interview with “Rewia”. Nalberczak’s private life was slightly worse. His two marriages did not last, and the actor had a great weakness for young and beautiful women.

“He had two wives, a couple of legal concubines, and it was impossible to count his casual love affairs. He knew how to love deeply, but unfortunately for a short time,” recalled the actor’s son. At the end of the 1970s, he lost his head for one of the actresses, who was 17 years his junior. He abandoned his family for her and arranged several roles. However, the girl did not reciprocate the feelings and quickly left for another man.

“When he was abandoned by her in a very cruel way that he did not deserve, he became a shadow of himself,” said Anna Nehrebecka in the book “Jak u Bareja, or who said it”, quoted by the Pomponik portal. The breakup pushed Nalberczak into the grip of addiction. His drinking cost him his health and career.

Before his death, he allegedly drank a liter of vodka

“I had a pulmonary embolism. It was very bad for me. My hands were turning blue… But I had been fighting all my life and I will fight this disease,” declared the actor in the last interview before his death. He then talked to Bogdan Kuncewicz, author of the book “Gwiazdy nażone”, the content of which is quoted in the Głos Wielkopolski article.

Unfortunately, Nalberczak did not manage to recover. The actor suffered from depression and received constant help from a doctor, his next concubine. He never forgot his previous beloved. On December 18, 1992, Nalberczak’s then partner found him dead in bed. As reported by Interia, the autopsy showed that he drank a liter of vodka before his death. The causes of the actor’s death remain a mystery to this day.

“In my opinion, Ziutek committed suicide. And since he was a tough guy all his life and a fun reveler, he decided to do it with a bang, in such a way that he could simply drink vodka one last time and thus say goodbye to the world and life ” – said his friend Janusz Zaorski to the author of the book “Jak u Bareja, i.e. who said it”.

The actor’s son does not agree with this bold theory. “After the stroke, he lived for several years. He soon died of cancer,” said Jacek Nalberczak in an interview with “Rewia”.
