Pierce Brosnan sentenced! The actor… was walking. What sentence did he hear?

Pierce Brosnan pleaded guilty in a Wyoming court to the offense he committed in November last year. The actor must pay a fine for walking around.

He was brought before the American justice system after straying from the trail in Yellowstone Park in November last year. The actor would probably have avoided conviction and punishment if it had not been for the fact that he boasted about the trip outside the designated route on social media. By the way, he called other tourists (sticking to the trail) “tourons” – a combination of the words “tourist” and “moron”, i.e. our familiar “idiot”.

Pierce Brosnan sentenced for walking

Although the punishment for walking sounds absurd, Pierce Brosnan deliberately broke the rules in Yellowstone Park. His departure from the trail could have endangered not only himself, but also the geological structures in the park – the actor was approaching hot sulfur springs, so he had to enter an area under special protection. The region of geysers and thermal springs has its own regulations, according to which deviating from the designated paths is prohibited.

During the first trial in January, the actor pleaded not guilty. Ultimately, however, until the second hearing in the Wyoming court, he thought it over and reached a settlement. According to it, he must pay a $1,000 fine to the account of a non-governmental organization dealing with Yellowstone. Thanks to the settlement, one of the two charges against him remained – violating state regulations regarding the ban on entering one of the park’s regions. However, the actor could have faced up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

Pierce Brosnan also wrote about the case on his social media:

As an environmental defender, I feel respect and love for nature. However, I made an impulsive mistake – one I regret – when I strayed off the trail into the snow-covered thermal springs to take a photo. I saw no “do not descend” signs to warn me of the danger. I didn’t walk around that area either. I deeply regret my offense and apologize for intruding on this sensitive area. We need to take care of our national parks and Yellowstone Park so that they can be enjoyed by all of us in an unchanged form #StayOnThePath
