The most expensive movie scenes

If you think that only car chases are expensive to film, you’re wrong. The classic Hollywood blockbuster “Ben-Hur” set the bar high back in 1959 – the production was revolutionary for its time, as evidenced by the fact that the film studio spent four million dollars on a nine-minute long chariot race scene. The expense was worth it in that they won an Oscar, but remember that they built a huge set, filming this scene took five weeks and required a year of planning, which adds an additional million to the cost. It is estimated that after inflation, in today’s money, the whole thing cost about 34 million dollars.

However, in the movie “I Am Legend” with Will Smith, there is also a scene with an evacuation across the Brooklyn Bridge – and as it turns out, it was one of the most expensive not only in film, but also in the industry. Various permits were needed from the city, as well as 250 film crew members, a thousand extras and an additional 160 National Guard guards. The army also provided helicopters, ships and crew needed to film everything properly. The executive producer estimated that the sequence cost five million dollars to shoot, but many people believe this is an underestimate.
