Have you ever had a craving for pickles, but when you reached for your favorite jar of pickles, you couldn’t open it, no matter how hard you held it? Well, when brute force has failed, try these jar opening ideas.
Twist the lid with something made of silicone. This method really works
One helpful way to loosen a tight or stuck jar lid is to grab something flexible made of silicone, such as a dish drying mat, an oven mitt, a stand, or even a silicone cake tin. Make sure it can cover the entire lid of the jar. This is a tactic used by Ronna Welsh, cooking teacher and founder of the Purple Kale Kitchenworks cooking school.

This method is more useful for jars that have already been opened. There may be some food trapped around the rim of the jar or a sticky sauce causing the lid to stick to the jar. Tapping the lid on the top and around the edges, using a heavier object such as the back of a knife or wooden spoon, can help remove food, ultimately loosening the cap.
Put the jar under hot water. This method never fails to expand the metal
Depending on the contents of the jar, be careful not to place the entire jar under hot water (after all, no one likes warm cucumbers). Let the hot water run from the tap until it is blazing hot, then turn the jar on its side and carefully submerge the lid under the water. Rotate the jar so that all sides of the lid are wet.
