He won a million in “Millionaires”, but he won’t get that much. The amount must be reduced by a large percentage

For the sixth time in the history of the Polish program, Hubert Urbañski presented a player with a check for one million zlotys. However, the amount used in the title of the game show and repeated in the studio is not the one that ultimately affects the winning account. How much can you really win in “Millionaires”?

Mateusz Żaboklicki became the sixth person who managed to answer all the questions correctly in “Millionaires” and win the main prize. The participant kept his cool throughout the game, showed great knowledge and delighted the audience with his sense of humor and manner.

Millionaires. He won a million, but he did not become a millionaire

Fans of the game show were surprised by the million-dollar question asked in the last episode of the program. Most people thought it was very simple. Hubert Urbański asked the player what group of quadrupeds, i.e. tetrapods, does not belong to. The possible answers included reptiles, amphibians, birds and insects.

The program participant was sure of the answer, but he called a friend and admitted that he suspected a trick in the question. When the answer was “D” – insects, Hubert Urbański handed him a check for one million zlotys. However, the player will not receive the full amount.

The winner of “Millionaires” does not win a million. How much will he actually get into his account?

According to the law in force in Poland, a “Millionaires” participant will have to deduct a large percentage from the main winning amount to pay tax. As art. says 30 section 1 point 2 of the Personal Income Tax Act, tax on winnings is collected from revenues from winnings in competitions, games and betting, as well as prizes related to bonus sales. Tax on winnings is collected as a lump sum and amounts to 10 percent of the winnings.

The winner does not have to worry about paying tax himself, this is the responsibility of the entity organizing the competition. It also relieves the taxpayer from mentioning the winnings in their annual tax return. In the case of Mr. Żaboklicki’s million-dollar winnings, the tax will amount to approximately PLN 100,000. The player ultimately left the studio PLN 900,000 richer, unless he also received a board game in the program. The amount will then be reduced by 10 percent of the value of the gift.
