Christopher Nolan won the first Oscars thanks to “Oppenheimer”. Now he’s going for another one

More than twenty years after his first Oscar nomination, Christopher Nolan has achieved his goal. This year he won the first two statuettes from the American Film Academy for “Oppenheimer”. It turns out that the director will not be idle and is already starting work on the next film.

“Oppenheimer”, directed by Christopher Nolan, broke the bank at this year’s Oscar ceremony. The American-British biographical film about the creator of the atomic bomb won seven statuettes, including two considered the most important, i.e. in the categories of “best film” and “best director”.

Moreover, the production about an American scientist brought huge benefits to the Universal Pictures studio that produced the picture. Last year, all Universal’s film production and distribution companies overtook Disney in the ranking of cinema revenues for the first time. “Oppenheimer” earned a total of $958 million, contributing significantly to the total $4.91 billion earned by Universal’s films.

Christopher Nolan doesn’t want to rest on his laurels. He’s already getting ready to work on his next film

However, Nolan showed, above all, in the film industry, that nowadays it is still possible to offer a three-hour film that will both be very widely watched in cinemas and will be successful in the most prestigious film awards. Moreover, the director received the first two Oscars in his career for “Oppenheimer”. Since 2002, it has been nominated many times, but the Academy always ultimately awarded other productions.

Now, when emotions after Sunday’s gala are slowly subsiding, media from overseas are reporting that the 53-year-old director does not plan to take a break from work. On the contrary. Apparently he is already working on the script for the next film. However, it is not known what it will involve. We can only expect that if it is not another biographical production, the details of the plot will be guarded by people from the production until the last minute.

Fans of the director point out that for ten years, Nolan has regularly released new films every three years: “Interstellar” in 2014, “Dunkirk” in 2017, “Tenet” in 2020 and “Oppenheimer” in 2023. This allows us to assume that his latest film may be released in 2027, but we cannot be sure of anything. The same applies to whether Nolan will create his latest work again under the wings of Universal Pictures, which will certainly not want to hand it over to the competition after such a success.
