The broadcasting of TVP World was interrupted on December 20, 2023, when, pursuant to the resolution adopted by the Sejm on the restoration of legal order and the impartiality and reliability of the public media and the Polish Press Agency, changes were initiated in the functioning of Telewizja Polska. Then TVP3 and TVP Info also stopped broadcasting, and the TVP Polonia signal was retransmitted in their place.
TVP World returns to broadcasting after almost three months of break. Terrestrial broadcast is planned
On Monday, TVP World was restored on cable networks, on digital platforms, on the tvpworld.com website and in the TVP VOD, TVP GO and TVP World applications. The broadcaster also announces the resumption of terrestrial broadcasting in Lithuania, Estonia and Austria, as well as on the sixth multiplex in Poland, thanks to which the English-language news station will also be available terrestrial throughout the country.
From March 11, TVP World programs will be broadcast in a new studio at the headquarters at Plac Powstańców Warszawy. Previously, the program was created at the TVP headquarters in Woronicza, but now TVP Info broadcasts from this studio. Cultural news, interviews and reports will also appear on air, and journalists will directly report on the most important events from our region.
Our main goal is to inform the world about what is happening in Poland and the surrounding region of Central and Eastern Europe, especially in fighting Ukraine. For now, the station’s schedule will be very similar to what it was before the shutdown. However, the new head of the channel announces changes in the approach to topic selection. – There will be no changes in the schedule for now, there was not enough time for that. – We intend to cover events from Poland and the region. We want to explain the context to viewers and explain why what we show is important. This will be a serious change at TVP World. So far, the station has covered, for example, Donald Trump. It doesn’t make sense, no one watched it. If the viewer wants to learn something about Trump, he or she turns on another English-language station, but not TVP World, says the station’s new director.
The TVP World team plans to launch news services in German, Russian and Ukrainian in the near future. The public broadcaster’s English-language station began broadcasting in November 2021. In Poland, it is available on cable networks, and on the Internet, a live broadcast is available to watch on the channel’s website.
