One of the most exciting moments of the night occurred before the gala started, on the red carpet. The gala itself, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who welcomed viewers an hour earlier than before, was not particularly exciting. The greatest emotion is this Oscar for the documentary “20 Days in Mariupol”. This is a historic statuette, the first in the history of Ukraine. – I am honored and I will certainly be the first director on this stage who will say that he would not like to make this film. I wish I could exchange this film for Russia never to attack Ukraine, and I wouldn’t give anything for Russia not to kill Ukrainians, for them to release all the hostages – .
Oscars for the favorites
The nominees in the best film category were: “American Fiction”, “Anatomy of a Fall”, “Barbie”, “Winter Solstice”, “Bloody Moon”, “The Maestro”, “Oppenheimer”, “Past Lives”, “Poor Things” and “Zone of interests”. The award was presented by Al Pacino, who was greeted with a standing ovation. His appearance on stage was related to the 50th anniversary of the film “The Godfather Part II”. And which title did he win? “Oppenheimer”. The film had 13 nominations and won seven Oscars.
The favorites won in many categories. Cillian Murphy won best actor in a leading role, who – as Ben Kingsley said during the laudation – accepted the role in “Oppenheimer” before reading the script. It paid off, he received, among others, for his role in Christopher Nolan’s Golden Globe, BAFTA and now an Oscar. – I am a very proud Irishman standing on this stage – he said. – We made a film about the bomb. We live in Oppenheimer’s world, for better and for worse – he added and dedicated the statuette to those who bring peace to the world.
Emma Stone won best actress in a leading role, whose… dress broke. – It happened during “I’m just Ken”, for sure – joked the moved actress. Stone, although she had stiff competition, was the favorite. For “Poor Creatures” she previously received, among others, Golden Globe and BAFTA. This is her second Oscar – she was previously awarded for her performance in “La La Land”.
Statuettes for supporting actors were received – without any surprises Robert Downey Jr. for “Oppenheimer” and Da’Vine Joy Randolph for “Winter Solstice”. There was no surprise, for example in the case of the best song – they received the award Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for the song “What Was I Made for?”. This is one Oscar for “Barbie”, which had eight nominations. The first Oscar went to Christopher Nolanwhose directorial nomination for “Oppenheimer” was the eighth in his career.
