Karolina Sobczak was born on March 5, 1984 in Kutno and, like the heroine she created on screen, she did not have an easy life. In her family home, almost everyone was addicted to alcohol, so she was often neglected and went hungry. For her parents, she was an obstacle to organizing all-night parties, so they decided to give her to an orphanage under the pretext of ensuring a better future for her.

Although she actually had much more favorable living conditions at the facility, she had problems with her behavior. She was only 16 years old when she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, whom she named Norwid. But then something changed in her, because she decided that she would do everything for him to have a better life. Soon a suitable opportunity arose. At that time, Robert Gliński was preparing a psychological film about the realities of growing up in Polish housing estates and suggested that she play the main character’s friend, Renata. Despite her lack of experience in front of the camera, she didn’t feel embarrassed. She made her screen debut in 2001 alongside stars such as Krzysztof Kiersznowski and Zbigniew Zamachowski.
In most scenes she was accompanied by Aleksandra Gietner in the title role, who was not so lucky and did not treat the film as a ticket to a better world. – Karolina accepted the rigor of the plan more easily, got into her character more easily and I think she was more disciplined – Zamachowski in an interview for “Dzień Dobry TVN”. The production, although controversial, was a huge success. She was honored with as many as five awards from the Polish Film Academy. The mayor of Kutno decided to give her a helping hand. –In fact, thanks to him, I’m alive today. Perhaps I would also fall into alcoholism? I was strong enough not to fall, but he saved my life by getting me out of there, she said, adding that it was thanks to him that she received a social apartment where she lived with her children.
Cutting herself off from the toxic environment had a positive impact on her. She started getting back on her feet and working on herself to be a role model for children. She did not hide the fact that she had moments of doubt, especially when she was unsuccessfully looking for love, but she never stopped believing that she would overcome adversities. – There are moments when it is very difficult, when you can’t cope, when you want to give up, when you are fed up with everything. I’m raising my children alone, so I have the right to feel down. But it only lasts a short while – she argued, emphasizing that her daughter and son provide her with the most support.
In 2016, she got engaged, and soon her third child, a daughter, was born. However, the relationship did not stand the test of time and ended in a painful breakup. After years of hardship and sacrifice, fate finally smiled on her. Sobczak found love and in 2022 she said “yes” again. She underwent a metamorphosis not only mentally, but also visually, because she does not resemble the girl who made her debut on the screen over two decades ago. Although he avoids interviews and draws a bold line from his past, he willingly documents his private life on social media.
