Book of the late Robert Samborski entitled “The Sacrament of Hypocrisy. Memories from the Seminar” was published on September 22, 2021. The position received wide coverage throughout Poland because the author put forward strong, uncompromising theses, questioning the validity of the functioning of seminaries in Poland. A would-be priest who was expelled from the seminary tried to answer the question of what candidates for priests actually learn. As he emphasized in many interviews, people asked him this question many times.
This is what everyday life looks like in seminaries. “A cleric should be afraid of women”
Is Christian love and teaching really the basis in the seminary, or is it just about remaining silent and obeying no matter what? The shocking memories of the author of “The Sacrament of Hypocrisy” prove how many situations that take place in seminaries never turn out to be so-called daylight. – Many things that are unhealthy in the seminary are also unhealthy outside. The church in the parish has the same pathologies, the same problems – he said in an interview in 2021.
In turn, in an interview with journalist Jacek Tomczuk, published in April 2022, he pointed out that the seminar in no way prepares for life. On the contrary, it puts fear into young men’s heads. – (…) A cleric should be afraid of women. Because she is waiting for his virtue, he said.
In the first year, one of the lecturers told us to be careful, because in the spring it would get warmer and some women would dress and behave in a provocative way to tempt priests. The priest’s entire sexuality is inextricably linked to the fear that someone will find out that he feels it at all. Having sex with an adult is a risk, it may seem. And a child can be more easily intimidated, manipulated and forced not to say anything. He is much easier prey
– he recalled. – Pathological silence in the seminary on the sexual sphere later contributes to the overrepresentation of pedophilia among priests – added the late. Robert Samborski.
“I told other priests what I think. That they eat, laze around and play rituals.”
After “Sacrament”, his next book was published, also showing the hypocrisy of religious institutions – “There is no Church. Memories after the seminar”. Robert Samborski described his experiences and feelings that accompanied him in the process of abandoning the Catholic Church and faith. The interview with the author was published in 2023
After being expelled from the seminary, Robert Samborski was a deacon in a small parish. After four years, he decided to completely turn away from the Church. In an interview with Angelika Swoboda, he talked about the reasons for this decision. He explained that, among other things, he left in order to “break free”.
They made me understand that they didn’t want someone like me (…). A person who does not unquestionably like everything in the Church. I told other priests what I thought. That they eat, laze around and play baroque rituals, make the faithful feel guilty and make them pay for it. I functioned differently. I worked as a gardener and a carpenter, and in my free time I went to parties and rap concerts with young people
– he said.
Let us recall that in January 2024, tragic news circulated in the media. announced that 39-year-old Robert Samborski died on December 22 in Jelenia Góra. “In recent years, Robert has been fascinated by nature, he has particular attention to wolves – he created a fanpage on Facebook called ‘Temple of the Wolf’, which was ‘a place for those for whom nature is sacred.’ He also undertook part-time biology studies at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. ‘Nature is a powerful reality, but unlike gods, it is visible, researchable, measurable, it is not afraid of a microscope, magnifying glass, scales, scalpel’ – he told us in an interview that we published in issue 94. ‘Replicas’ – we could read in the moving “Repliki” post on Instagram.
