The Actor’s House in Skolimów has been operating continuously for almost 100 years. Many stars and people distinguished for the development of Polish culture and art spent the last moments of their lives there. Now its current residents have revealed what living conditions in the guesthouse really look like.

The House of Veteran Artists of Polish Stages in Skolimów, commonly known as , is located in Konstancin-Jeziorna near Warsaw. The building was built in 1927 on the initiative of the renowned director, Antoni Bednarczyk, and its construction was financed by contributions from the Association of Polish Stage Artists, which has been its main manager from the beginning.

These stars lived in a nursing home in Skolimów. What do residents have access to?

The guesthouse was created for lonely and retired artists who, either due to difficult financial situation or the need to use the help of third parties, are unable to live alone. Thus, since its creation, many personalities from the world of theater, film, music and art have found shelter there. The last moments of their lives were spent there by such stars as Roman Kłosowski, Danuta Rinn and Barbara Krafftówna.

Each resident is provided with 24-hour care and assistance. They have single rooms at their disposal, which can be arranged according to your own taste and preferences. Some people limit themselves to bringing souvenirs, while others even decide to furnish them with their own furniture. With couples or married couples in mind, in the 1980s, a separate segment was added, in which small apartments and studio apartments were created. In addition, all residents have access to a large canteen, a chapel, and a garden around the building.

Currently, less than 50 retired artists live in Skolimów. One of the residents is , known from productions such as “Sysyphus Works”, “Exam of Life” and “The House on the Water”. In an interview, she decided to reveal what everyday life is really like in the famous nursing home for celebrities. – We feel as good here as in our own home, or even better – said the 90-year-old. – My apartment in Szucha was not as clean as it is here. The ladies clean my room once a week, she said.

Agnieszka Byrska-Zaczyk, who moved there over 8 years ago with her late husband, a popular opera tenor, Zdzisław Zaczyk, is also happy with the benefits. – In Skolimów we live absolutely carefree, everything is taken care of, the service is excellent. I have checked other nursing homes and there is no home like this one. Maybe they are more tidy, but nowhere is there the same atmosphere as in a house with furniture and trinkets left behind by great actors. This place must be cherished, appreciated and must not be destroyed – said the actress a few years ago in one of the interviews.

Residents do not complain about lack of activity and boredom. Various artistic events and cultural meetings are regularly organized in the building, and anyone can organize their own party and invite guests if they so wish. – They organize dances for us, but unfortunately there is no one to dance with, because our men are either sick, or they simply don’t dance well and step on toes – said the dancer, Ryszarda Gozdowska, in Super Express.
