Israel will finally participate in Eurovision, as confirmed by the Israeli public broadcaster Kan. She has done so through a tweet in which Aden Golan, author of ‘Hurricane’, is seen celebrating the decision of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) that he took this Thursday. At the moment, the community public entity has not confirmed the news.

Since the selection of artists participating in the contest began, which this year is held in the Swedish city of Malmö, the Israel’s participation has been in the spotlight due to the continued attacks on the Gaza Strip which started last October after the entry of the Hamas terrorist group onto Israeli soil.

In fact, Israel’s first two proposals for the contest were the songs ‘October Rain‘ -in reference to what happened on October 7- and ‘Dance Forever’ by the same artist. Neither of them convinced the organizing entity because of their political message. The EBU, about to run out of time, has approved the last option: ‘Hurricane’. A topic that we will have to wait to hear since it will not be shared until next March 10th.

The decision, however, has not had the unanimity of the decision-making group. Along with those from Spain, members from Sweden, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Portugal, Italy, Croatia and Germany have voted against Israel’s participation in the contest.

The news contrasts with the resolution made by the same body in the 2022 edition in which Russia was refused to participate by invasion of Ukrainewhich started in February of that year.
