On February 27, 2019, Luke Perry was hospitalized with a massive stroke. Doctors put the actor into a medically induced coma, but his health did not improve. In the meantime, the “Riverdale” star suffered a second stroke, after which his immediate family decided to disconnect him from life support equipment. This happened on March 4, 2019, a week after the 52-year-old actor went to the emergency room. His closest family and his fiancĂ©e Wendy, whom the actor was to marry in August of the same year, watched over him until the end of his life.
What could have caused Luke Perry’s stroke?
In an interview with the Daily Star, Dr. Michael Hunter explained that there could be many causes of strokes, although two seem the most likely. He indicated that the actor may have suffered from thrombosis, which he developed after many hours of traveling by plane from Los Angeles to Vancouver, when Perry was working on the series “Riverdale”. “Sitting for a long time in a tight space, e.g. on an airplane, poses a risk of deep vein thrombosis. It occurs when circulation slows down and a blood clot forms in a vein, most often in the leg,” he said in an interview with the Daily Star.
According to Dr. Hunter, the second most likely cause of the stroke could have been genetic. The specialist drew attention to the age at which the actor’s father died – he was only 35.
Luke Perry last appeared on screen in the production of “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood”. Loyal fans associated him primarily with the role of Fred Andrews in “Riverdale” and Dylan McKay in “Beverly Hills, 90210”.
