An unusual ending of “Fakty”. Instead of saying goodbye, Werner read a statement

The last issue of “Fakty” had an unusual ending. Anita Werner, instead of saying goodbye to the viewers, read the statement from the TVN editorial team. “We will immediately appeal against this decision to the court,” it was said on air.

Wednesday’s edition of “Fakty” was hosted by Anita Werner. The program began with material about the farmers’ protest in Warsaw. From the reportage, viewers could learn that during the demonstration, paving stones were thrown, and flares and tires were burned in front of the Prime Minister’s office. “And so the Green Deal moved into the background, street riots came to the fore, which is a pity,” the host announced Dariusz Łapiński’s material.

In addition, “Fakty” also touched upon Szymon Hołownia’s freezing of the topic of abortion, Daniel Obajtek’s million-dollar expenditure on hiring a detective to track opposition MPs, and showed a silence march for Liza, a brutally raped and murdered girl in the center of Warsaw. However, the latest edition of “Fakty” ended differently than usual.

Instead of the traditional farewell to the viewers, Anita Werner announced that she had an important editorial statement to read. “And at the end of “Fakty”, I have for you a statement from the TVN24 editorial office in connection with the decision of the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council to impose a fine for the “Franciszkańska 3″ report showing abuses in the Church,” the “Fakty” presenter began.

“We will appeal this decision to the court”

The editorial position read concerned the decision of the chairman of KRRiTV to impose a financial penalty on the station. TVN emphasizes that such a verdict has no basis and “harms media freedom and is an attempt to introduce censorship.” “The mission of journalists is to inform and reveal facts. Also those that show difficult truths. The “Franciszkańska 3″ report is the result of many months of work based on witness accounts and source materials. First of all, it gives a voice to the victims of abuse in the Church themselves. The financial penalty for TVN24 is another an attempt to intimidate our and many other editorial offices. It poses a threat to the viewers’ right to information,” emphasizes Anita Werner in her speech.

Finally, the presenter noted that TVN intends to defend the journalists who prepared the material. “We will immediately appeal against this decision to the court,” she declared and said goodbye to the viewers.
