The premiere of the series “Rojst” took place in 2018. The first season had only five episodes and was broadcast on Showmax. We could already watch the second and third series on Netflix. The action takes place in a certain city in the western part of Poland. However, its name was not given. The director is Jan Holoubek, son of actor and director Gustaw Holoubek.
What is the series “Rojst” about? Each season is about something different
The heroes of the first season were a pair of journalists from the regional newspaper “Kurier Wieczorny”. These roles were played by Andrzej Seweryn and Dawid Ogrodnik. They tried to solve three murders on their own: a local communist activist, a prostitute and a teenage couple. In the second season (“Rojst ’97”) we move to 1997. Then there was the so-called the flood of the millennium. Water flooded the forest, resulting in the discovery of human remains. The investigation is handled by a pair of policemen: Adam Jass and Adam Mika (played by Magdalena Różczka and Łukasz Simlat). The action of the third season (“Rojst Millenium”) takes place in 1999. Sergeant Mika tries to solve the case of a kidnapped girl. The whole thing has a criminal plot, and viewers wonder what it has to do with the title of the production. We decided to check it out.
What is rojst? The name of the series can be interpreted in three ways
According to rojsta, it is a swampy place, covered with moss and bushes. They can be compared to a wetland. The word was taken from the Lithuanian “raistas”. Although the series has a theme of forest and mysterious areas, the name has nothing to do with a humid area. The swamp in the title is the social swamp, the world shown in the series. The characters are stuck in a system that paralyzes their lives. It resembles a dangerous quagmire. Any move you make can sink you deeper into the proverbial swamp. Rojst can also be interpreted as nostalgia, a memory of old times that absorbs us. Everything is recreated down to the smallest detail: old hits, specific fashion and stores that no longer exist. This also creates the original atmosphere of the series.
