During the premiere, viewers left the cinema hall. Now it is in the TOP10 of Netflix in Poland

It was supposed to be another big hit for Netflix, but during its world premiere at the Berlin festival it was a dismal failure and even the star cast couldn’t save it. I’m talking about the film “The Astronaut” starring Adam Sandler, which not only disappointed viewers, but also did not live up to critics’ expectations.

for years he has been considered one of the most popular and highest-earning actors in the world. This is due to the contract he concluded some time ago with . Although the projects in which he appeared were not very successful and went unnoticed, among others: about not very successful comedies such as “Killer Cruise” or “Hubie Saves Halloween”, the bad streak slowly began to end in 2019.

“Astronaut”. Netflix has released another Sandler movie. What is the story about?

All thanks to the crime thriller “Uncut Diamonds” directed by Josh and Benny Safdie, in which Sandler played the role of Howard Ratner. This brought him not only popularity among viewers, but also the Independent Spirit award and the so-called The Redemption Award, i.e. the Golden Raspberry. Later, the sports comedy-drama “Throw of Life” also turned out to be a success, thanks to which it began to be appreciated by critics and other creators.

The science fiction drama, telling the story of the title character from the Czech Republic, who tries to save his marriage with the help of a talking spider, was supposed to be another big hit on Netflix and join the group of the actor’s best titles. However, this did not happen, and the science fiction drama by Johan Renck, co-creator of such hits as “Chernobyl” and “Vikings”, contrary to expectations, turned out to be a real failure.

“The Astronaut” failed in global streaming. It is a hit among Polish viewers

During the world premiere of “The Astronaut”, based on the 2017 novel “Spaceman of Bohemia” by Jaroslav Kalfar, at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, the hall was emptying by the minute. The production was also not a success in streaming, as it debuted in the library on February 21, 2024 and so far has only been watched by 8.8 million people worldwide, less than half of which are viewers from the United States.

This is not the best result, especially since it was equally criticized and had an audience of almost 10 million people. Interestingly, in Poland the film appeared on the website only on March 1 and, despite negative opinions, it was ranked 2nd in the TOP10 most popular titles.
