“” debuted on Prime Video in 2022. Although Jeff Bezos’ empire had only partial rights to the source materials, undeterred producers went all out and invested unimaginable money to present their version of Middle-earth on small screens. Almost half a billion (!) dollars were spent on the first season – $465 million to be precise. Regardless of the financial results, the next, and now also the third, season of the show was announced immediately.
“Rings of Power” will return with a second and third season
“Rings of Power” is currently the most expensive series ever made. Each of just eight episodes consumed an incredible budget, which consisted mainly of special effects and set design. Unfortunately, the money did not translate into the plot – the show was widely criticized as an incredibly empty, although incredibly beautiful, shell. Showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne created a visually stunning product, but since they couldn’t base it on Tolkien’s work, only on short content he created and included as “extras” with “The Lord of the Rings”, they had limited room to maneuver. So they composed the story of Galadriel anew, the series roughly matches the individual, basic events that Tolkien described in his works, but the whole thing is created from the head, i.e. from nothing.
Regardless of the criticism that was leveled at “Rings of Power” after its premiere, the financial results of the series depended. The second season was immediately announced and filming has already been completed. No release date was given, but unofficially it is said to be the last days of August or the first days of September 2024. Regardless of the second season – whether it will be better or even worse than the first – there will certainly be a third one, which is already “to be written”. As we read in “The Hollywood Reporter”, the so-called The “writers’ room” has not been opened yet, but the script for the second season left many issues open precisely in order to create further episodes. Contracts with existing producers were also extended.

What will we see in the second season of “Rings of Power”?
The first season of the series ended with the making of the three Elven rings, the reveal of Halbrand as Sauron, and the explosion of Orodruin in Mordor. NĂºmenor must get back on his feet after the king’s death, Sauron, rejected by Galadriel, has already acquired all the knowledge about magic rings and will soon forge his One, and she herself does not stop trying to prevent his plots. The fate of Isildur is unknown, as he lies somewhere in the ruins of the village after the volcanic eruption. The Balrog has awakened in Moria, which means that the dwarves will soon lose their kingdom. The Hobbits discover the Stranger’s power.
We’re going to see a lot more of Sauron in action in the second part of the series. He is supposed to appear in various guises and ultimately confront a certain Adar, who was responsible for death and destruction in Mordor. Adar is convinced that he managed to kill Sauron, but Sauron will correct him. We will probably also see the awakening of the Balrog and the panic of the dwarves who will try to fight the prehistoric monster. What’s next? It’s scary to think, because the imagination of Amazon Prime Video producers knows no limits and does not stick to those set by Tolkien.
