Michał Adamczyk was one of the faces of the “good change” of Telewizja Polska and one of the people credited with politicizing the station. He started his career in 2001, and a few years later he became one of the most popular hosts of the main edition of “Wiadomości”. “He was an efficient, although not particularly hard-working, news presenter […] After the ‘good change’ came, he showed his other face. He didn’t blink an eye when Kurski kicked out or forced many of his colleagues with whom he shared desks to leave TVP. He became a leading PiS propagandist. He gave a name and a face to the team that turned public television into a ministry of propaganda carrying out messages from the headquarters,” said Tomasz Sygut, the current president of TVP, about the journalist.
Michał Adamczyk considers himself the only legal president of TVP
In 2023, Adamczyk became the director of the Television Information Agency, but he was dismissed when the revolution began in the public media. with “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”, the journalist argues that he is still the only “legal” president of TVP.
“I am the president of the management board of Telewizja Polska, unrecognized by the usurper authorities. I was appointed to this position in exactly the same way as Jacek Kurski or Mateusz Matyszkowicz. The regulations in this area have not changed since 2016. Therefore, it should be considered that I am I am a legal president,” declares the journalist. Michał Adamczyk was chosen by the National Media Council established by PiS. The current Minister of Culture, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, by putting public media companies into liquidation, means that they are now managed by liquidators.
“I was proud of ‘Wiadomości'”
The former presenter of “Wiadomości” also referred to the recently revealed earnings of TVP managers. According to information, Adamczyk earned PLN 1.5 million on Polish Television in 2023. The journalist declares that there has been “manipulation”.
“First of all, these amounts include a six-month severance pay for being terminated for running ‘Wiadomości’. Such severance pay is nothing unusual. Similar severance pays were already in place before 2016,” he emphasizes in an interview with the daily. He noted that until May 2023, he earned PLN 40,000 gross as a presenter, and after becoming the head of the Television Information Agency, his remuneration doubled.
Michał Adamczyk has nothing to blame himself or the “old” TVP, although the Polish Language Council pointed out that “75% of the slightly over 300 “strips” shown in the main edition of TVP’s “Wiadomości” in 2016-2017 did not have an information function, only persuasive, creative and expressive. The former presenter of “Wiadomości” defends the strips and the name of Telewizja Polska. “Strips often have to be very expressive, if only to attract the viewer’s attention. This happened not only on TVP, but also in other press and Internet titles,” he notes.
“I was really proud of ‘Wiadomości’. And I know that viewers also feel their great absence,” added Adamczyk, and then explained that people who missed Tusk on TVP could use the remote control and change the channel.
