Its architecture absorbs me. I move around its historic center on foot or by bicycle. I like it, ”says the artist, who has his workshop gallery in that area, precisely in Benigno Malo 4-103 and the touristy Calle Larga, where he is pleased to have contact with visitors interested in his work.

This sample was born by initiative and curator of the Swiss Madeleine Hollaender, with whom he has worked and exhibited inside and outside the country. It also has the support of the photographer and cultural producer Patricio Estévez.

“Ariel accompanied me for many years exhibiting at the Madeleine Hollaender Gallery in the city of Guayaquil, moving to Geneva (Switzerland) for her 2006 solo show. Her paintings are a luminous testimony of this region and, like other travelers in history, crossing the Andes he experienced its beauty and made color his own. The friendship that unites us in part is due to the fact that we could never leave this country, we shared the love for Cuenca and the affection of our friends, Calle Larga, the mountains that surround it and their hospitality ”, says Hollaender about this painter who He studied art and has exhibited in his native country and in Barcelona (Spain). He also developed his talent in the 5 years he lived in Salvador de Bahía, Brazil. He has also exhibited in Uruguay and Switzerland.

Ariel, who comes from a family of artists in various branches, divides this show into three series. The first is the scenery, where nine large-format works (2 mx 1.40 m) stand out. The second are scenes and stories related to the past, cinema and music, fields that also excite him. It pays tribute to the great Argentine artist Cándido López, who was a soldier who fought in the Triple Alliance war (Brazil-Uruguay-Argentina against Paraguay, 1864-1870) and painted those battles. Another of his works is inspired by the film Dersu uzala (The hunter, 1975), by the Japanese director Akira Kurosawa. “In the rooms of the Nahim Isaías I am showing a little of what I have been developing.”

The third series is called Fragmentations. “They are constructivist works that show a kind of abstraction … I am not an abstract artist, but I get closer”, he indicates about those paintings that fuse expressionism with neo-figuration and that seek to establish a particular link with the public through their personal interpretations.

In this way, Ariel Dawi shows his art, but also his most personal passions and interests. (I)
