The man who changed the music industry. Pop culture icon

Elvis Presley, known as the “King of Rock and Roll”, was an icon of music and popular culture of the 20th century. Born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, Presley quickly gained popularity with his distinctive musical style, combining elements of blues, gospel and country. His first single, “That’s All Right”, released in 1954, started a true musical revolution. Elvis became not only a music icon, but also symbolized the moral and cultural revolution in America in the 1950s and 1960s. His expressive style of stage performance, moving dance and characteristic appearance made him one of the most recognizable artists in the world.

Unfortunately, Elvis died young, only 42 years old. He was found dead at his home, Graceland, in Memphis. The official cause of death was determined to be heart failure, although there has been much speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the event. The artist’s health was certainly influenced by many years of addiction to drugs and alcohol. The slow fall of the “king” was watched from the side by his distraught wife, Priscilla. And a film was recently made about her.

The daughter of Priscilla and Elvis – Lisa Marie loudly criticized Coppola’s production even before the premiere. She emphasized that this was not a true picture of her father. And she didn’t blame it on the director’s vivid imagination. Lisa’s mother, Priscilla, supervised the production. Lisa died shortly before the premiere, and then rumors about doom haunting the Presley family resurfaced once again. Elvis’ mother, Elvis, Lisa’s son, and Lisa herself died young.

Great love and great fall. Priscilla lived in a golden cage

The film “Priscilla” evokes extreme feelings and does not distort the facts at all. We clearly see the situation when Elvis adores 14-year-old Lisa, whom he was older than by over a decade. It was an incredible distinction for the teenager. However, you can’t help but think that she was actually still a child. It all started in 1959 in Germany, where Elvis was serving in the military, as was Priscilla’s stepfather. A musician’s friend noticed her in a restaurant and quickly decided that Elvis would like her, so he invited her to the party. The feeling quickly flared up, but Elvis soon returned to the US to continue his career. Priscilla took it more than badly. For 2 years she lived for letters and phone calls from her beloved. Until she finally got permission from her parents to visit Graceland, Elvis’s residence. The musician’s colorful, yet hermetic environment completely absorbed her.

Over time, she moved in with him, still as a teenager, she lived her life between school and home, and more specifically, waiting for her busy lover. It was he who decided to change her image. She dyed her blond hair black and started wearing a lot of make-up. He chose her clothes and forbade her contacts with the outside world. Priscilla was 21 years old when she married Elvis Presley. The wedding took place on May 1, 1967. A year later, their daughter, Lisa, was born. After this, the marriage gradually began to deteriorate. According to Priscilla, her husband completely lost interest in her after giving birth, and even avoided contacts and threw himself into affairs with other celebrities. At the same time, he became increasingly addicted to drugs and became aggressive. At some point, the golden cage at Graceland became too tight for Priscilla, so in 1973 she decided to divorce. After a period of mutual grudges, the ex-spouses came to an agreement and even became friends.

After the divorce, she appeared in several films and television series. Her most famous role is the role of Leslie Nielsen in the comedy film “The Naked Gun”, she launched her perfume line and was also involved in charity work. After Elvis’ death, Priscilla had a hand in managing his musical legacy, the museum at Graceland, although she was forbidden from using his songs directly in a film.
