On Thursday morning, the media reported the arrest of three people suspected of extorting compensation from insurance companies. A spokesman for the Warsaw police said that the operation, in which one of the musicians of the Kult group was involved, had been going on since at least 2021.
Kult musician accused of fraud
The case concerns forging documents on the basis of which fraudsters obtained a death certificate and then paid out almost one million zlotys to insurance companies in respect of life insurance policies. “The suspects, based on forged documents, obtained a death certificate, which they, in turn, presented to two insurance companies in Poland, and based on it, they paid a total of over PLN 1 million in compensation under life insurance policies,” said Robert Szumiat, spokesman for the downtown police. in an interview with TVN Warszawa.
In connection with the case, the police detained a 63-year-old Kult musician, his partner and son. The suspects were charged with fraud and forging documents. Piotr M.’s statement appeared on the official profile of the Kult group, in which we read: In connection with the information and press reports about me that appeared in the media today, I would like to declare that I am fully and fully responsible for the information contained therein. . At the same time, I would like to point out that my colleagues from the Kult group had no knowledge about this until today. I am very sorry that the good name of the band has been harmed due to my omission and lack of reaction. I am sorry to all those whose trust I have betrayed. It was not my intention, nor was it my intention to involve my colleagues in this whole mess…”
