He heard that there is no Constitution in force at school. The author of “Marcin’s Law” says whether you can beat a student

“I heard: you are a weak lawyer, you should know that there is no Constitution in force at school” – says Marcin Kruszewski, a lawyer who runs the channel “Marcin’s Law”. It explains why learning law at school is important and… whether a student can be beaten if we write it down in the school statute.

Marcin Kruszewski is a popular young lawyer who runs a media channel called “Marcina’s Law”. “Marcin’s Law” is widely used mainly by students. It is here that they learn what can really be banned at school and what is legal nonsense and included in the statutes. In a conversation with Marta Korycka, editor-in-chief of the Kultura.gazeta.pl portal, in the “Dobrze Read, Dobrze Listen” podcast by Publio.pl, he talked about what we can find in his latest book. The interview included real-life stories – including numerous law workshops conducted in schools throughout Poland.

“Martin’s Law”. Marcin Kruszewski says what he heard from the teacher

In addition to education in social media and the Internet, Marcin Kruszewski also conducts training in educational institutions throughout Poland. In a conversation with editor Marta Korycka, he admitted that sometimes he has to take into account that teachers invite him secretly, because not every school is dominated by the attitude that it is good for students to know their rights:

We are devising strategies on how to conduct such a meeting secretly from senior teachers and the management. I won’t reveal which school so that someone won’t have any problems. But some of my teacher friends did this by saying: I want to organize a meeting for my class with a lawyer from Warsaw, Marcin Kruszewski. Not everyone connects “Marcin Kruszewski” with “Marcin’s Law”, because many people have already heard about “Marcin’s Law in schools. When I come and see these looks – whether terrified or angry – of these older teachers, I know that This school will be interesting there, he said.

It also happened that teachers encountered a complete misunderstanding of the meaning of the law and the hierarchy of individual legal acts. Sometimes they claim that a student at school has only responsibilities, they are so attached to old teaching methods that the revolution that is already taking place in schools is extremely difficult for them to absorb. And you simply have to learn it, because it is impossible to stop such changes.

I once went to a school and a very nice lady who organized these meetings with the kids, really nice, said: Mr. Marcin, I have a problem with you because you are a weak lawyer. You should know that there is no Constitution, no laws, no regulations in force at school. The School Statute applies.

In the next series of conversations with writers, which can also be listened to as a podcast “Read Well, Listen Well” Publio.pl, Marcin Kruszewski touched on the topics that are most interesting to students in today’s Polish schools. Can they be banned from drinking during lessons? Why does a prisoner sometimes have more rights than a student? What effect did Przemysław Czarnek have by introducing top-down bans on everything? What should teachers’ salaries and what should students do if their rights are violated at school? You will learn all this from Marta Korycka’s conversation with Marcin Kruszewski this Friday at 12:00 on the Gazeta.pl website.

“Marcin’s Law” is no longer available only on the Internet

Lawyer Marcin Kruszewski decided to collect the essence of his materials from the Internet and from lectures at schools in the form of a book. “Marcin’s Law” is addressed mainly to students and is intended to make them aware not only of their obligations, but also of their rights. The book is available in bookstores throughout Poland from the end of January, and you can also listen to it in an e-book version.

Marcin Kruszewski is a lawyer and creator of the “Marcina’s Law” channel. As he himself says, he became an expert on students’ rights somewhat by accident. Under his recordings, he received dozens of questions from these younger citizens, and the recordings with answers to them quickly gained popularity. He found his own niche in legal analysis of subsequent episodes of the series “School”.
