Psyllium seeds look like linseed. They also have similar properties, although it is often emphasized that psyllium beats flax. 100 g of psyllium seeds contain as much as 50 g of fiber and 14 g of protein. Thanks to the fiber content, it is recommended primarily to improve the functioning of the digestive system, but not only.

the seeds have a beneficial effect on the system. They regulate intestinal function, improve bacterial flora, and help fight constipation and lose excess weight. They also have a beneficial effect on irritations of the digestive system, including ailments related to peptic ulcer disease. They are also used to lower bad cholesterol in the blood and normalize blood glucose levels. The seeds support the healing of the gastric mucosa. Therefore, it is worth including them in your daily diet.

It’s not everything. You can also use the seeds as a hair or face mask. They have a moisturizing effect and help soothe skin irritations. All you need to do is pour hot water over a portion of the plantain and set aside until the mucus forms. After straining, apply it to damp hair or skin and rinse after 15-20 minutes.

Psyllium: how to use and drink the seeds? Don’t forget one thing

Adults can consume approximately 8-9 teaspoons a day, preferably divided into several portions (1-2 teaspoons each). You can drink the seeds with water, juice, compote, and even add them to your morning portion of oatmeal or cereal, dessert or tea. You can easily eat the ground ones right away, but it is better to pour warm water over the whole seeds and wait until the characteristic mucus forms. To begin with, it is worth starting with a smaller portion, 1-2 teaspoons a day to check how it affects the body. This should already show the first results.

It is better not to exceed the recommended daily dose of plantain seeds and not to drink them in the evening before going to bed. Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect. If you consume psyllium, remember to hydrate properly. With such a high fiber content, it is necessary to drink more water.
