As Denis Villeneuve admitted, the entire process of recording scenes with Anya Taylor-Joy was kept strictly secret, although the film crew went to Africa for this purpose.
“We did it. We went to Africa to shoot with Anya in top secret. I just liked the idea of keeping something for the audience as a surprise until the end; it was a gift I wanted to give to the fans,” the director said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
The news of Anya Taylor-Joy’s participation came to light when her name was included in the cast list of the film. It was removed shortly afterwards, and the actress attended the London premiere.
