In “” Nick Offerman played a one-episode, touching role of a man in a same-sex relationship in post-apocalyptic times. The role was met with huge critical acclaim shortly after the episode’s premiere, and now she has been noticed at the Independent Spirit Awards festival. Offerman received the award for best supporting role in a series, but when accepting the statuette he turned to the haters who were bothered by his character’s sexual orientation.
“The last of us”. Nick Offerman, awarded, thunders from the stage
In parallel to the praise for the role in the episode “Long, long time” in “The Last of Us”, the production of the series was criticized by groups opposed to equality and the representation of the LGBT+ community in contemporary mass culture productions. A loud movement called anti-woke (woke is supposed to be a negative term for the lack of systemic discrimination and the lack of disregard of everything that is a minority) considered the episode with the homosexual couple to be a progressive “throw-in” and filler – without any connection with the plot of the entire series, but consistent with the current “fashion” for showing minorities on an equal footing with the mainstream. Offerman disagrees and made it clear on the Independent Spirit Awards stage. While accepting the award for his role, he said:
Thank you. Thank you to HBO for having the balls to include one that is truly independent in their story. A story with balls. Homophobes asked me, ‘Why did you make it a gay story?’ And we can answer them: Precisely because you ask such questions at all. This is not a ‘gay story’. This is a love story, you assholes!
– he said from the stage.
“The Last of Us” has LGBT+ themes, whether the haters want it or not
Meanwhile, HBO is working intensively on the second season of “The Last of Us”. We will again see Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the main roles. The adaptation of the next part of the hit game will also feature LGBT+ themes. Although in the first season there was an episode with Nick Offerman and , in the next season Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, will have the opportunity to learn about love in post-apocalyptic times – and not the love considered traditional and “correct” according to critics. Isabela Merced will play her friend Dina.
