The use of baking soda in cosmetics is common. What’s more, this cheap product – one sachet costs PLN 1.50 or PLN 2 per piece in a supermarket – is a perfect alternative to expensive drugstore products. We won’t spend more than PLN 5 on all this “fun”. We need 1 lemon and the mentioned baking soda.
Baking soda. A staple in every home
Baking soda has many uses. It is essential in both the kitchen and bathroom: it absorbs moisture and odors, and has cleaning and disinfecting properties. In cosmetics, however, it will work well for those with oily skin – because sodium bicarbonate has a drying effect. However, remember that before you start self-care, it is advisable to seek medical advice to eliminate possible allergies. In addition, baking soda should also be avoided by people with dry and sensitive skin, so as not to aggravate irritation.
However, if we do not have such contraindications and we struggle with clogged pores, a mask made of lemon and baking soda will be the perfect solution. How it works? Baking soda primarily unclogs pores and smoothes the skin by removing its stratum corneum. It will also unify the appearance of our skin.
All you need is baking soda and lemon. This duo will sweep away your pores like a vacuum cleaner
In addition, a baking soda and lemon mask is also a good way to remove discoloration and lighten the skin tone. Thanks to its high vitamin C content, lemon juice helps remove pigmentation spots and gently exfoliates the skin. In addition, this fruit is also rich in vitamins A and B, as well as phosphorus, sodium, magnesium and calcium.
The recipe for a baking soda and lemon mask is very simple. Simply mix two tablespoons of baking soda with 1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice. It is worth adding 2 tablespoons of brown sugar – for an additional peeling effect. However, this is not obligatory.
The ingredients should be mixed together until a thick paste is obtained. Apply this mixture to your face and leave it for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, we wash it off with lukewarm water and I wipe my face with a soft towel.
However, you must remember one rule: Baking soda has an alkaline pH, while skin has a slightly acidic pH. Therefore, immediately after using such a mask, wash the skin with a tonic or micellar fluid with a pH of approximately 5.5, restoring the skin’s natural pH.
