The brother strangled his sister, who had been struggling with addiction for years. The parents helped hide the body. This story happened in the small town of Szydłowiec in the Masovian Voivodeship. How did such a tragic event happen?

Everyone lived with this crime in August 1994. The tragic story of Agnieszka Kozakiewicz from Szydłowiec touched the whole of Poland. What happened then? The story of this seemingly orderly family has been told.

Story Agnieszka Kozakiewicz. How did the tragedy happen?

From then on, Agnieszka and Marcin tried to meet the requirements imposed by their parents. My daughter initially complied with them. She graduated, got married, had a daughter and found a good job as a French teacher. Over time, however, alcohol appeared in her life. She divorced her husband and then began dating other men, which her religious parents did not support.

Agnieszka’s addiction deepened to such an extent that she started showing up at school under the influence of alcohol, which led to her being fired from her job. This event finally sobered her up. She realized that she had to pull herself together and decided to go to therapy and rehab. On August 23, when Agnieszka was staying at her family home in Szydłowiec, another quarrel broke out between her and her brother. He believed that the woman was cheating on them and continued drinking, and he learned this from an anonymous letter. In the morning of August 24, the man went to her room to talk to her again and an incident occurred.

When the girl didn’t feel like arguing again, Marcin grabbed the cable from the tape recorder lying near the bed and tied it around Agnieszka’s neck. The parents were woken up by the boy who told them about what happened. Their reaction was calm and they even helped conceal the crime. They took on the responsibility of cleaning up and covering up the traces. They dressed their daughter’s body in elegant clothes, trying to hide the circumstances of her death. Then in the evening, they took the body several kilometers outside the town, where they placed it by the road, next to her red car. All these activities were aimed at misleading the investigation and hiding the truth about the tragic event.

Murder from Szydłowiec. The investigation lasted over a year

After a long investigation, which initially did not produce any concrete evidence, investigators began to rely on witness statements. As a result, the true picture of the P. family was revealed Marcin became the main suspect, which led to his arrest in October 1995. He pleaded guilty without showing much emotion and justified his actions as a reaction to the behavior of Agnieszka, whom he considered the “black sheep” of the family.

Despite the tragic circumstances of the crime, both the parents and Marcin felt no remorse and even claimed that Agnieszka deserved her fate. The court sentenced the boy to 25 years in prison. Later, the sentence was reduced to 15 years, and he left prison after 8 years. Antoni received a sentence, but due to health problems he was released after a few months. However, Henryka avoided severe punishment and received a suspended sentence.
