The Euskadiko Orkestra premieres on Thursday Squeal-Praiseby Antonio Lauzurika, a commissioned work composed on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the Gipuzkoan sculptor in the fifth program of the Basque ensemble, which thus resumes the season after its tour of Linz and Salzburg.
Directed by its owner, Robert TreviƱo, the concerts will be on February 15 and 16 at the Kursaal Auditorium in San SebastiƔn; on the 19th at the Teatro Principal of Vitoria; on February 20 at the Baluarte Auditorium in Pamplona; and on the 21st at the Euskalduna in Bilbao.
In Squeal-Praisethe Vitoria-born author has tried to translate into staves, in four movements, what Chillida’s work and has wanted to “establish a dialogue between two worlds that seem very different but are not so different. Concepts such as space, limit, mass, scale, gravity, surface, density, and texture are found in this score,” says the composer.
Some of the instruments that the percussionists hit are pieces of iron from Chillida Lantoki de Legazpi, with which the sculptor himself worked.
The program is completed with the Symphony number 8 by Haydn, nicknamed ‘The Night’ and the Symphony number 3 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, one of the most classic works of the Russian composer.
Tickets are priced between 10 and 38 euros.
