The festival of Junior Eurovision 2024 will be held in Spain. This was announced by RTVE, the corporation that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has commissioned to organize the festival.

The decision occurs after France’s resignation, winner of the contest in 2023 with Zoé Clauzure and her song ‘Cœur’. The truth is that the French country has organized the festival twice in three years and, given the second consecutive victory, has decided to hand over the baton to another country.

Spain will therefore host the 22nd edition of the festival in a very special year for our country and it is celebrated the 20th anniversary of María Isabel’s victory with ‘Better dead than simple’.

“Twenty years after their victory, we are excited to finally bring the contest to Spain, and we are grateful to RTVE for agreeing to host this competition, which gives young European artists the opportunity to show their talent”said Junior Eurovision executive supervisor Martin Österdahl.

Unlike his “older” brother, Junior Eurovision does not necessarily have to be held every year in the country whose representative won the previous edition, although you do have priority in doing so if you wish.

Last year Spain was second with ‘Loviu’ by Sandra Valero, while the winner was the French ‘Coeur’, played by Zoe Clauzure. France Télévisions declined to organize the 2024 festival, so UER offered it to RTVE, which has accepted.

“Organizing the festival is another step in the efforts that Spanish public television has made in recent years to promote Eurovision in Spain and give relevance to our music“, indicated the head of the Spanish delegation in the contest, Ana María Bordas.

The host city of the festival and its dates (which usually take place at the end of each year) will be announced soon, the EBU indicated. Spain was absent from Junior Eurovision for many years, between 2007 and 2018, but in its nine participations in the contest it has had more than positive results: In addition to her victory in 2004, she has been second in three editions and third in two more.
