A memorable moment on TVP Info. The presenter’s voice shook as he apologized

The changes in TVP are, above all, a change in the way we talk about people and the world. On Sunday evening, an unexpected but very important apology took place on TVP Info. – LGBT+ people are not an ideology, but people, specific names, faces, loved ones and friends. All these people should hear the word “sorry” somewhere. This is where I apologize, said Wojciech Szeląg in a trembling voice.

On Polish Television during the so-called good change, LGBT+ people were not talked about at all or were said badly. Examples include various materials from the propaganda “Wiadomości” or the homophobic film “Invasion” directed by Marcin Tulicki, which was broadcast on TVP many times and contained a lot of manipulation. In June 2022, the District Court issued a judgment ordering the broadcast of an apology in the main edition. “News” and a donation of over PLN 35,000 to the LGBT+ organization.

No one expected this apology. The presenter’s voice trembled, and his guests were stunned for a moment

This specific apology has still not happened, but it can be safely said that last Sunday evening on TVP Info was groundbreaking. Wojciech Szeląg’s guests in the program after 9:30 p.m. were activists working for LGBT+ people: Maja Heban and Bart Staszewski. After a short introduction to his interlocutors, the journalist began a special statement.

– Before we start the conversation, I think there should be three sentences. For many years in Poland, shameful words were said about many people, only because these people decided to decide for themselves who they consider themselves and who they love, said Szeląg.

LGBT+ people are not an ideology, but people, specific names, faces, loved ones and friends. All these people should hear the word ‘sorry’ somewhere. This is where I apologize, the journalist admitted in a broken voice.

The presenter’s behavior clearly surprised the activists. There was silence on the air for a moment and only after a while the guests of the evening journalistic program on TVP Info replied with a short “Thank you”. However, the host himself said that this is a “historic moment”.

The activist compared the visit to TVP to visiting the “tormentor’s house”. He also mentioned Holecka

Bart Staszewski commented on the whole event, as he has been portrayed in a very negative light for the last eight years by the so-called national media. “When I was going to the TVP studio, my heart was beating like before my high school final exams – not because I was afraid of the interview, but because I felt like I was entering the house of my tormentor. You know well how TVP talked about LGBT people: They are not people, they are a threat , it’s an ideology. For years, they showed us as the greatest evil. As an activist, I personally felt this hate firsthand. Danuta Holecka changed my name by accident, and Przemys³aw Czarnek called for action against me. Threats and lawsuits became a permanent element of my life. I survived “- he wrote in a post on .

I was sitting there and heard the journalist’s trembling voice. He apologized after years of portraying LGBT people as a threat to the Polish nation. I was moved. An apology is an important part of reconciliation. This is the Poland I want to fight for. Thank you – added the activist.

Earlier, Staszewski shared a frame from the old “Wiadomości” TVP, which shows Micha³ Adamczyk announcing the material entitled “LGBT ideology destroys the family.” So far, Telewizja Polska has not referred to specific attacks on social groups. Only at the beginning of January, the new team of the “19.30” daily apologized for the materials attacking Paweł Adamowicz. – For what happened in the past years ago what happened in TVP’s “Wiadomości”, on behalf of the “19.30” editorial team and the current authorities of Telewizja Polska, we apologize, especially to the relatives of President Paweł Adamowicz – Zbigniew £uczyñski said then.
